See the world's only flyable B-29 FIFI - The CAF's B-29 has undergone major maitenence including a four-engine overhaul to be able to fly. This year marks the first year this aircraft has flown since it was grounded several years ago. This is the last flyable example of the B29 Superfortress which was made famous then this style aircraft dropped the atomic bomb which ended World War II.
"Pirated Skies" Wing Walking Act
Pirated Skies and Pirate Wing Walking - Watch as Captain Kyro (Kyle Franklin) ascends in the infamous Waco Mystery Ship with his lovely lady (Amanda Younkin-Franklin) riding the lower wing through loops rolls, and hammer heads. As wing walking woman scouts the skies for enemy vessels, the captain will practice a series of maneuvers such as torque rolls, tailslides, snaps, and tumbles while reaching speeds in excess of 180mph. The duo will then demonstrate freestyle maneuvers such as THE CAPTIAN, RAISING THE FLAG, and SWORDS. These skills may be the crew's only means of victory should the mighty cannons on the "Mystery Ship" fail.
F-15 Strike Eagle Demo Team
The F-15 Strike Easgle Demo Team - The F-15E Strike Eagle is a dual-role fighter with two crew members, a pilot and a weapons systems officer, performing air- to-air and air-to-ground missions. An array of avionics and electronics systems gives the F-15E the capability to fight at low altitude, day or night, and in all weather, as well as the capability to fight its way to a target over long ranges, destroy enemy ground positions and fight its way out.
CAF's World War II Airpower Demonstration
Watch history soar at AIRSHO 2010! Aerial dogfights fill the skies and simulated bomb explosions rock the ground as the CAF’s collection of rare classic warbirds reenact famous aviation battles. From the world-renowned Tora pilots who recreate the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor to daring aerobatic maneuvers flown by pilots in World War II, Korea and Vietnam-era fighters, AIRSHO brings history to life.
WWII Living History Reenactors
The purpose of Living History Reenactors is to portray, preserve and honor the “Greatest Generation” of Americans. At the CAF AIRSHO 2010 these individuals will recreate the past in living history encampments on the AIRSHO grounds as they “Take a Step Back in Time” and relive the days of World War II. They will also participate during the Tora Tora Tora flying sequence as they take to the taxi way in a mock battle.
Bob Carlton's Jet Powered Super Salto Sailplane
Powered by the PBS TJ-100 jet engine, the highly modified Super Salto sailplane is the only sailplane on the airshow circuit capable of performing a low-level, jet-powered airshow performance. Utilizing its powerful jet engine, the Super Salto performs a high-speed aerobatic climb to altitude without a tow plane, followed by a spectacular exhibition of graceful sailplane aerobatics, choreographed to classical music, and featuring the world-famous Vertigo Airshows smoke. When the original altitude is spent, most sailplanes must land. Air Boss - Ralph Royce
Ralph Royce has been involved in air show production and management since 1976. He has operated an aviation event consulting and air boss/announcing business for twenty years, “AirPros”, and is well known throughout the air show industry. Royce is Chairman of the International Council of Air Shows’ Safety Committee. He is the lead instructor for the Industry’s Air & Ground Operations Seminar (both basic and advanced), taught at the ICAS Convention, the FAA Academy, and the USAF Air Show Workshop.
Announcer - Larry Strain
Larry Strain has been involved with air shows for almost 30 years, having held positions in virtually every aspect of the industry including planning, production, flying, narrating, air boss, management and instructing. Strain is a member of the “AirPros” team which is nationally known and recognized within the air show industry.
The CAF is proud to have Jan Collmer, pilot of the FINA Extra 300L, as one of AIRSHO's featured aerobatic performers. Watch Jan as he puts his Extra 300L through a breathtaking display of maneuvers, including awe-inspiring torque rolls and tail slides.
The Extra 300L is an unlimited-level aerobatic aircraft designed by award-winning German aerobatic pilot and chief aircraft designer Walter Extra in 1987. One of the most agile two-seater aerobatic airplanes in the world, the Extra 300L is FAA-certified in the acrobatic category. Top speed is 250 miles per hour, and the aircraft and can be flown to plus or minus 10 Gs.
In 1979, Jim Hall and Chaparral Cars introduced the Chaparral 2K Indy Car. For the Indianapolis 500, driver Al Unser qualified the 2K for a front row position. During the race, Unser charged into the lead and stayed there for 104 laps until transmission trouble forced him to retire from the race. The following year, with Johnny Rutherford at the wheel, the 2K won pole position and raced to victory in the Indianapolis 500, and also won the 1980 Indy Car National Championship.“The Chaparral 2K was the fastest car in 1979.
